When to Visit
Spring
Spring is full of activity in the Great Smoky Mountains and foothills of East Tennessee. The valleys and mountain tops come to life with light green buds and emerging wildlife. Weather will be variable — from sunny and warm to snow showers.
Summer
Spend a warm, summer vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains. The moderate summer climate means everyone can enjoy the area attractions. Cool off in a water park, hike in the Great Smokies or browse through the towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on a warm summer evening.
Autumn
The most celebrated time in the region because of the vibrant autumn colors that dazzle spectators each and every year. Autumn is full of wholesome activities like Octoberfest, hay rides and absolutely breathtaking scenery throughout the region.
Winter
Winter is a great time to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life as you float away into a magical winter wonderland. Ski or snowboard at any number of nearby resorts, enjoy world-class holiday shopping or simply snuggle by the fire in one of our luxurious rental cabins
In terms of weather, the park’s abundant rainfall and high summertime humidity provide excellent growing conditions. In the Smokies, the average annual rainfall varies from approximately 55 inches in the valleys to over 85 inches on some peaks — more than anywhere else in the country except the Pacific Northwest. During wet years over eight feet of rain falls in the high country. The relative humidity in the park during the growing season is about twice that of the Rocky Mountain region.

Winter highs between 40 and 50, with lows between 20 and 30.
